Borden Gerrard Obituary

Borden Hoy Gerrard passed away on January 8, 2026, at Fairview Hospital in the company of family and friends. He was the son of William and Mildred Gerrard and the younger brother of Gary, Jim and Jack.

To those who knew him, he was more often referred to as Whitey or YT, due in part to the color of his hair and beard. Borden was born on March 13, 1958, in Fairview and attended all his schooling in Fairview. He enjoyed hockey, skiing and baseball in his younger years and also was quite gifted at drawing and painting. He attended Fairview College and completed his first year of heavy-duty mechanics. Before he got too far down that path, he was invited to work with a friend who was a bricklayer. He discovered his true calling as a bricklayer and stone mason, where he could apply his creative skills to something he enjoyed doing and could get paid to do. He learned his trade well and applied his trade all over Alberta and beyond. He spent several years working in the Toronto area and even travelled to Jamaica for a working vacation to do some work for the Bilous family.

Borden had an infectious personality. He made friends from all walks of life. Wherever he went, he often became the center of attention.

In 2015, Borden purchased an acreage in Green Island and worked on jobs closer to home. He enjoyed acreage living with his big dog Willie G and spent his spare time at home gardening and carving out a 9-hole golf course on his property with the help of some of his close friends and neighbours.

Borden is survived by his daughter, Kelli Bauder; granddaughter, Dakota; 2 great-grandsons, Elliot and Benson; brothers Gary and Jack and their families; aunts Olive Gerrard, Ada Gerrard, and Gail Hart; and many cousins.

The family would like to thank his many friends, co-workers, neighbours, and caregivers who visited and helped out with medical trips, at his acreage and in his home. These combined efforts allowed Borden to spend more time at home with his dog Willie, where he wanted to be. And thanks to all who took the time to visit at the hospital for their support.

A very special thanks to the nurses and staff at Fairview Hospital who helped us all through the last couple of weeks of Borden's life.

A celebration of life will be held in Green Island sometime in June this year.
