Matti Pekka Antero (Peter) Makkonen

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matti Pekka Antero (Peter) Makkonen, who left us peacefully at the Peace River Hospital on February 2, 2026.

Peter was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Peter touched the lives of everyone he met, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories.

Born in Oulu, Finland, on October 1, 1948. At the age of 15, he immigrated to Canada and became a Canadian Citizen. He met and married Myrna Orr on July 25, 1970.

Peter is lovingly remembered by his wife Myrna, son Neal (Tina), daughter Jodi (Mark), grandchildren Jasmine (Kruise), Logan, Kaden and Kali, Faith (Steven), and Keegan. Great-grandchildren Bowen, Cooper, and Liam. He is also survived by nieces and nephews in Finland, in-laws Jack orr and Dee Burch, and many friends and former co-workers.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gredanius, family, friends, neighbours, Pastor Jacques, and everyone who prayed and brought food, meals, flowers, text messages and phone calls. Your love and kindness will always be remembered.

A service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Life Church in Peace River.
